At Alternatives Pregnancy Center, we believe that abortion is often the result of a lack of resources, education, and support. Our center offers practical, compassionate ways to remove the barriers that cause women to choose abortion and provide the opportunity for every woman to make positive choices for herself and for her unborn children.

For women who choose to parent, Alternatives provides pregnancy support through medical referrals and parenting classes.  We also provide information on adoption for clients who want to carry their child, but aren't ready to parent.

If you or someone you know is pregnant, visit our client web site

at www.alternativescenter.org for more information or call 319-232-5683 for your FREE and CONFIDENTIAL appointment.

In the year 2002, about 1.29 million women in the U.S. had abortions.  The data, collected by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit group that collects information from abortion providers and public sources, show that for every 1,000 pregnancies that did not result in miscarriage in 2002, there were 242 abortions.

According to the Guttmacher report, 47 percent of unintended pregnancies are aborted.

Most women who choose abortion feel they have no other choice. Afterwards, she may experience an enormous sense of relief. Over a period of time the relief begins to wear off and the emotional struggle she felt prior to the abortion resurfaces. As the reality of what happened begins to set in, many women find it increasingly difficult to deal with the conflicting feelings she experiences.
